First blog

Hi, I had never had a  blog, at the beginnig it was a little hard to use it. It was a good experience, the posts were funny, and I  have to say last post was my favourite because it reminded me a lot of  things that i have forgotten, my sister was helping me to chose the tv show for the blog and suddenly I remembered which was my favourite series. A post that I did not like, was A piece of Art, basically because as i wrote, I do not know much about that but it was good to read the others posts. My favourite clasmates´s blog was Shine on you crazy diamond, even i did not comment in all posts, i read almost all of them,  for me it  was interesting, and it gave good and enertaining information, and other interesting blog for me it was Chocolate from a shop, I read too Francisca´s blog , and Elizabeth´s blog Creatively which i think it was the most attractive because of the colours. I read almost all blogs at the beginnig, but now  it is  end of semester, it is more difficult XD.
I think it is a good idea to keep an english blog it helps to have practice for writing, even in my case i think my grammar is dangerous, but now it is easier for me to write about a lot of things, and of course to read classmate´s blogs it is was funny and good for the vocabulary.

A TV Show

When I was a child about eight years, some of my favorites tv shows was Tales from the Cryptkeeper, it was based on the live-action television show, Tales from the Crypt. This series was broadcast on the afternoon I do not remember the exactly time, and it  had three seasons, I only saw first and second season, the third season was not broadcast because in other countries it did not have a good audience, because it adopted new laws of an institutiton wich was controlling  the tv show´s contents in United States. This tv show is an animated series about a friendly corpse (Cryptkeeper) who was narrating horror stories , the storyline  was about kids or adults who were taking bad decisions in their life or they were causing some problems, so in consequence they had to confront scary situations which gave them a reason to reflect. There were antagonistics characters who were treating of to steal show like The Old witch and Vault Keeper. There was a moral in all episods. This serie really was my favorite, I think    kids likes  scare story because  are attractives, and beside this series was animated, it was not so scary. The principal theme  was cool.

Ken Robinson: Do schools kill creativity?

I agree, It is true, during  students life until high school, we do not have many options, it is almost an obligation to learn maths, chemistry, or history but the other subjects like dance  are  not appreciated. I have a cousin he is really an artist with his hands, since we were child, he was drawing very and he did ceramic work too, he was a common student, but it was a little hard for him, he had particular teachers to supporting him.  His parents are traditional and really I never saw  they have given enough attention to this artistic part in his son. Today he keeps working in ceramic, in fact  in my house´s living room  there is a decoration done by him, It is a ´´gnomo´´ I think so, it is beautiful, it is perfetc, my cousin even he did the clothes, I think he has a real talent, now he is an psychology student, but I know he still doing his sculptures.  My cousin studied in an excellent school, but  even there, the artistic subjects do not have  a true importance, and it happens in all the world,  as Ken Robinson said.

A weeks ago, I saw the Ballet Nacional  in Teatro Universidad de Chile, it was cool, and as Universidad de Chile´s  students,  we pay less XD. I like so much seeing  live danza.

A building

In Santiago, there is one building wich is my favorite,  I think is beautiful, The National
Library, I have gone sometimes in 2007, in particular because of PSU, that was a perfect place to study. This beatiful and big building was founded in 1813 under government  of politician and  soldier  José Miguel Carrera , the architect was Gustavo García Postigo, and together ¨Archivo Nacional¨, these buildings were inspirited in École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts or ENSBA from Paris.
I have walked a  lot of times close by this building, however, I have gone in a few times, the principal place is big, the desks and desk lamps are antiques of course, but very good maintained, it is beautiful. I see many people walking every day by there, and I am sure not much people go in, obviously we are very busy.
Surrounding the building there are some referents too as ¨Cerro Santa Lucia¨, ¨Universidad Católica¨,, and a modern building wich I like too ¨Centro Gabriela Mistral ¨ or ¨GAM¨ (ex Diego Portales)  wich offers ballet or contemporary dance, music concerts, stage play and art exhibitions. Definitely The National Library gives a distinct touch in the Santiago´s modern center.

Hi, really I do not know much about paints, I only have seen some of the most famous but, It did not   cause impact in my life XD, that is  because I do not  know about art paints, but I will learn some day, so this homework it has become a little difficult for me.

Recently,  sometimes I see photographs of famous artists. When I was fourteen or fifteen years, I had to do a homework about ¨The year of the Science¨ so I chose Albert Einstein, between photos that I found, I saw one wich calls my attention: It shows Albert Einstein playing violin together his wife in the piano. That  photo calls my attention because It is weird to see this genius man in a distinct facet.

The other photograph is the front cover of first  disc (1969)  of Carlos Santana, the image  is a lion but, if you look in detail, yo will see a child,  really I think it is a man, and four human heads. These under-cover  images are a little crazy, I do not know   who is a the author of this picture,  I saw it   some years ago, when I was looking for new music.

Food

I like very much the peruvian food, because  I was born in Lima, so I grew up with a variety of dishes and desserts . In Santiago there is a plenty  of cultures, and there are a lot of peruvian restaurants of course, thanks god :), sometimes I go to ¨La casa del Cheff¨ www.lacasadelchef.com, the prices are a little expensive (not much), but I recommend it, this restaurant has many dishes. Close my Faculty (Independencia), there are many peruvian restaurants  I used to go to ¨Tacu Tacu¨ (Bezanilla with Independencia), it is close by a lot of undertaker´s  XD, the prices are a little cheaper  than ¨La Casa del Cheff¨ but the food is delicious too, a menu price is about 3500 ¨pesos¨ (include a starter,  dessert and a drink), I recommend ¨Pescado a lo macho¨, my favorite meal, it is a seafood, a good fish, a delicious sauce, and a little of rice, but if you go you should say that no so much salt, because  sometimes they cook with a tiny excess of salt. I think that the best oven Empanadas  in Santiago  are in   ¨Ña Matea¨ , Cheese prawn pasty is my favourite,  the location: in Bellavista Purisima 171, and there are branches in HUechuraba and Providencia districts , for more information:  www.namatea.cl.
If you like Italian food, ¨Pasta E Basta¨, its a good option, a little expensive, it is in Isidora Goyenechea with Vitacura I recommend Spinach´s  Gnocchi, I do not remember the dish name exactly.
PD: Pasty=Empanada, is it a good translation? I am not sure…….but I am hungry now :)

Nirvana

Hi:
A t the beginning, I have been thinking to write about Marie Curie ( I think she is the most important  scientific), it had to be woman !  but trying to  get away  for a while of the  chemistry environment, I decided, and all  my apologies to Madame Curie, however, in fact I would like to have met to  Kurt Cobain and his band of course, unfortunately he is death. His songs  lyrics are very simple, the guitars, the battery and the Kurt Cobain special voice are wonderful,  I think  that a tour  with them  must have been the most exciting event ,  funny and a crazy experience, I imagine being  with them in a tour we could  talk  about their firsts songs, and how they recorded their songs. It must have been interesting, to meet them at least for a while and know something else about their life. I like Nirvanas songs, specially  ¨The man who sold my world¨ it  is my favorite,  I can play it with my guitar, It could have been wonderful to play this song with them.

The second video, is the song  She smells like teen spirit, but in piano, I think it is perfect.

"Fitness freak"

Hi:

I never have visited this website, I think it is a useful tool for learning (obviously), in particular I read the page tab : "The English we speak", an article shows a pdf archive, an audio, and I only read the dialogue, it called my attention because the photograph was a woman running and I usually run about six or eight kilometers at two times in a week but by streets of my district. So, this conversation is between two women, and one of them do not understood an expression: 'fitness freak', and she took it like an insult, then the other girl explained what this expression means obsessed by sport and fitness, because in English you can use the word 'freak' with a noun to say that someone is obsessed by something which you think is strange. I get it funny.

Well, in addition this website has a lot of videos, interesting and funny news, I think  it is ideal because, it is easier to learn reading funny and interesting  histories or dialogues, than studying a lot of grammar.

My career

Hi:

I m a Chemestry and Pharmacy student, at the beginning, I wanted to study medicine I always liked healthcare, however, a high score was required to study medicine, some people told me that  chemistry exam was easy, so  I studied and made arrangements for that specific exam, then I realized that Chemestry was not that easy, finally I decided to study Chemestry and Pharmacy, I have to say that I am not repentant  of the things I did, I come from a professional- technical school, although at the beginning it was hard,  I love my career now.
I would like to work in the researching area in a laboratory, or a place where I can teach people how to use rational pharmacy drugs , however it’s a little bit difficult because big pharmacies limit our work; drugstores have commercial interests and no healthy objectives. We have to practice in communitary drugstores , I mean talking to people and giving them advices about a rational use of drugs (the most interesting part).

The Royal Botanic Gardens: Kew

I think this place must be one  of the most beautiful place in the world, its located in London’s   south west .

The Royal Botanic Gardens was founded in 1759, It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. Alongside Kew Gardens in London, Kew has a  second country garden based in Wakehurst which is the Kews Millenium Seed Bank home.

How to go there; Kew Garden Station, is the closest London’s underground station, Zone 3, the ticket is 14.50 pounds, for adults, and its free for children, there are so many things to do in Kew, for example, little headed trips, Art Photograph expositions, seminaries, talks, familiar activities, and seasonal parties, etc.

In Kew you can visit The temperate house, which is the world’s  largest surviving Victorian glasshouse,  and in the interior saves a big plant, La Palma del Vino de Chile, there also the Kew Palace, and the Royal Kitchens.

I would like to visit this beautiful  place, because it  has so many plants there are scientists for their conservation, landscapes are so beautiful too.

A cool concert

Hi guys:

I love music, I have gone to some concerts in my life; there is one I remember, The Evanescence concert, It was my birthday present, and it was the first concert I have ever gone, the location was at the Santiago’s National Stadium, unfortunately, tickets were sold only one type (¨Cancha¨), so I had to go very early in order to have a good location, we were  in the middle of the field , I enjoyed very much  the concert, it was wonderful, they played all their songs, until the last album, It was the first Evanescence gig in Santiago, I won’t forget that march 2007, I was seventeen years old, the best part of the concert was when they played “ My Immortal” in piano. The singer Amy Lee has a strong and beautiful voice, he sang “ Bring me to Life”, at this moment the energy in the concert was very high, enjoying the live music is very special; I was very happy, at the end of the concert my hair was a mess, and I got a sore throat, this band was my favorite for a long time, I had a big poster of them in my bedroom (so fanatic XD), finally I already know that they have a new album, but I haven’t listened any song  yet.

Bahía Inglesa

Hi

Although I don’t use to go to the beach, two years ago, I went to Valdivia beach, I don’t remember the beach´s specific name, the sea water was too cold. Last summer I went to Atacama Region, and I wento to “Bahia Inglesa” we went there because of its low waves, there are four beaches : Las piscinas, Las Machas, Blanca y el Chuncho ; this is a small and beautiful place, but there is a little problem, there are some windy days, one day, the wind was that strong that broke my umbrella,  we had to buy another one. The sea has a turquoise color, its ideal for swimming, I suggest to go to that beaches since 10 am because from 1 pm there are lots of jellyfishes, I prefer Las piscinas beach, in Bahia inglesa there are some funny things to do, like kayak, diving, snorkelling, bike rental, etc. One day I decide to do snorkelling, we used snorkell of course, it was funny but some dramatic too, I swallowed a lot of water, then I realized that the problem was my braces, breathing was very difficult, for the future I will  try again but without braces.

Montaña Vieja

Last Year, in September, I traveled for the first time to Cuzco,  beautiful city.
I have traveled with my sister for a week,  I have always wanted to visit Machu Picchu, I think my age was perfect   to do this trip, I mean in order  to enjoy  the majestic of the Incas city  as much as possible, Cuzco is a nice colonial city, there are wonderful churches, lots of places for good food, the night life is so beautiful, It’s a good idea to visit “El Barrio de San Blas” . The third day, we went to Machu Picchu,  I couldn’t believe that, It’s a huge and wonderful place.

The trip to Machu Picchu is also very beautiful (include a train trip),  we arrived to a nice  small town called “Aguas  Calientes”, the weather is warm, and wet, this town is a side of a big river, “The Urubamba River”, between huge mountains, I couldn’t believe that Machu Picchu was at the top of one of those mountains, from Aguas Calientes, we had to take a bus, that climbed slowly from side to side a very big mountain, from the top, the Urubamba River looked tiny. In Machu Picchu, it was plenty of tourists, from all over the world,  my pictures say by itself,  It’s a mystic place, the energy you feel is incredible,  I love that place, actually, I would like to go back when ever its possible.
However, in Cuzco there are also more beautiful and historical places to see, you can visit Sacsayhuaman, Ollantaytambo, Pisaq, Chincheros, etc. September is the best time to visit this place because of its weather.

P.S : Macchu Pichu, comes from a Quechua phrase meaning   ¨Montaña Vieja¨.

An interesting country

Hi :
I want to write about a country which has called always my attention.
My mother has traveled to Cuba for vacations three weeks ago, I remember the first thing I told to my mother, “bring me a Bongo please”. This is a beautiful instrument that has a nice sound and I would like to learn how to play it someday.
When my mother came back from Cuba, she told me everything about her trip; La Habana, is a city where the time seems to has stopped, It’s a colonial and lovely city, there are lots of really good musicians, the people are very friendly and handsome  men, well, this what mom said. The Cuban citizens are not really free, for example they can not leave their country easily as we do, however, they have health and education for free, this is really valuable, Cubans could be good professionals, but unfortunately salaries are too bad, only tourism is the way they have to increase their economy.

Cuba has 15 tv channels, and they offer only cultural information, which is really good, but they also give bad information about USA.
Athough Cubans way of living is so extreme, basic needs are free, and for everybody, on the other hand USA, I think that health service is not free and its very expensive, their economy is strong but there are some things that need to be solved, for example freedom is that much that children can do sometimes what is supposed to be done by adults, and people make money easily but they spend it easily too, I think a middle point between Cuba and USA could be the best.
Finally, Cubans beaches are very beautiful, It’s the best place for vacations.

Only learn

I should to say what I have a lot of ambitions, i would  like have much time  for achieve all them.  Since when I was a child, I loved the music. I began playing a small toy piano. At the beginning, I used just my instinct for playing songs, later I took piano lessons, and I learned some of musical theory, I participated in some competitions. But formally, I never studied  at  piano school.
So this is my ambition, I will like take piano lessons, I think this is a beautiful instrument, and who knows!!! maybe one day I could be a piano concertist. During the university life, it is a little difficult at least in my career, to have the enough time for taking  lessons. This hobby did not arise  about a particular inspiration, just it borned since I had this tiny piano between my hands. Then  music, in particular classical music because of  its beauty, it made  me to want to play it some day. Really the piano is not the unique instrument what I love, I play my guitar eight years ago, but I need to practice a lot. When I achieved this ambition, I will be ready for buy my first large piano, and then I could die in peace XD. No, but at least, I could be satisfied, although I have a pending of  ambitions list .

Favorite book

Hi guys,

Today I will write about  my favorite book el Paraíso en la otra esquina, the author is a peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, I read this book  four years ago, I have read others titles from this author, so I wanted know more books from him. Particulary this author has a broad vocabulary, so  i like his books besides all his titles are distinct, and it has differents themes.

The "Paraiso en la otra esquina" contrast Paul Gauguin and Flora Tristan´s lifes, and although they are totally differents persons, they have family bonds, she is his grandmother. This woman (french feminist from peruvian lineage) is a fighther of womans´s prerogatives, who has had hard experiences, and Gauguin a brillant famous painter who has a  bohemian and chaotic life. Their histories, have in common they are looking for a paradise. I absolutely recommend this book, because it gives us two interesting and intense histories.

No title :)

I like websites about music, so I visit youtube almost every day. I started using like a three years ago. This is a website where we can learn a lot of things, but in particular, I ´m looking for new music all time. I have an account where i can saving my favorites videos, I have approximately   two hundred  videos saved as an favorites. There is an account (youtube) of  brazilian musicians, they teach  guitar and other instruments, their classes are very good and although they speak in portuguese i am already used to, besides they use tabs so It is very easy to understand them. This is their name account: Cifraclub, in case you would like to visit it.
Cifraclub have much brazilian music for learn to play, in fact i can say what I am a fan of this music, but the are too popular music from all the world, like The Beatles, Oasis, Madonna, and some of latinmusic.

Between my last musical discoveries, I found a french singer Zaz, her style is  gypsy jazz, I was listening to her first album and it  is great, she sings Spanish songs too (boleros). I hope you listen her. Bye bye.
